BBM, Whatsapp and Text Dating Worries!

The post is entitled, Bbm, whatsapp and text dating worries! But it does also encompass email, facebook and twitter as I know some people like to arrange dates and things via social networks to. My question is with the arrival of such modern technology, is it making dating slightly more worrying?

You see I'm single so I can go out, meet someone, exchange bb pins/text/whatsapp,  then bb chat/text/whatsapp all week, next I can arrange a first date via bb chat/text/whatsapp  and finally meet up still using bb chat/text/whatsapp; all without talking to this person lol, without knowing what his voice sounds like or discovering what his personality is truly like. Its sort of like the modern day equivalent of being a pen-pal, or the older dating services where you had to write letters to each other!

The upside of this is that communication is instant, if for example x crosses your mind at 19:00:00 (I'm using the 24hr clock here) a quick text, bb, whatsapp will let them know by 19:00:50 seconds, which is very sweet :) lol!

The more worrying aspects are:

1) Can you really get to know someone over bursts of 200 characters in a bb, text or whatapp message?
I don't know about you but my questions and responses tend to be a lot shorter, precise and to the point (I'll try and fit what I'm saying into one text message not five lol and also try not to get finger cramps from pressing all the  small buttons on the phone).  With telephone conversations you tend to go into more detail and be more expressive; plus they say when it comes to first impressions what is being said counts for 7%, 55% is body language and 38% is style of speech i.e your tone of voice,  so often times it feels like something is missing.

2) People lose all sense of the appropriate times to start having conversations with you.
It is 2am and I've just received a bb message, could it not wait?? I'm half asleep here! What important dating info are you able to give me at this time? None! Stop! Or suddenly there is a question x wants to know about you! "Do you get on with your family?" Really... at 2am? lol

3) Things get lost in translation (which goes back to part 1!)
Even with the additional smiley faces and emocion's, the most you can potentially ascertain is that a person constantly using ROTFL laughs a lot maybe they have a GSOH. While a person using sad smiley's a lot, might be miserable or moody, the person who uses cool smiley face all the time may think they are cool, but they may not be on the same level of your own personal cool standard.

Those are a few dating worries but the ultimate one (the creme da la creme of bbm/text/whatsapp dating downside's)...

4) Date Night
So finally of course after you've spent the entire time texting, bbm-ing and whatsapp-ing your potential date, date night arrives and you then spend all your time worrying about whether you and he will actually get on at all because...

...You've ONLY ever bbm-ed, texted and whatsapp-ed each other! Lol, the fact that you've ONLY bbm-ed, texted and whatsapp-ed now terrifies you...you think maybe I should have called hmmm...

But its too late you've already sent that final text to say..."I'm on my way" :/

I do think its time to start calling again!

So BDSS'ers what's your experience's? Have you dated someone arranged via facebook, twitter, bbm? How did you get on?

Blogging Hazadous For Relationships

I'm sure my fellow bloggers and my lovely BDSS ladies will agree blogging can be hazadous for your relationships. When I say relationships I'm talking any relationship really (family, friends, work colleagues) but for the focus of this post I'm going to be talking about blogging whilst in a relationship.

I definitely know that a certain amount of self censorship goes into what will and won't appear on this here blog of ours. Also after pressing the 'publish' button I have experienced such worries as have I said something I shouldn't? Will this offend anyone? (possibly those close to me) or will anonymous come at me hard again! *Eek*

Anywhere were I have noticed an extreme hazard is love relationships  particularly if things are not all stella then anything you write is likely to get scrutinzed by your other half and a lot of the time they take that post that you said about your worst sexual experience ever and assume you are talking about them! (when your not!)

Oh BDSS'ers if you were a fly on the wall in the background of The BDSS then you would be prevy to some serious insight into the male ego/psyche.

I can't tell you the amount of times one of these here post's have been taken in the wrong way by one of our other half's or previous halfs (for lack of a better description).

You only have to look at Liz Jone's of the Daily Mail she wrote about her marriage, her husband's affair, their break ups and make ups all for our comsumption and if I remember right her husband was not to pleased to be the fodder for our entertainment, which I guess is understandable.

However there is a big part of me that thinks if you as a man (in this case) or women are acting right then you should know that your partner is not likely to have a dig at you via the blog (notice I said 'not likely' not never!) and from knowing The BDSS ladies I can tell you anything we may say in reference to you it's more than likely we have said to your face, we are unlikely to refer to something out of the blue that you did not know about, like the fact you spend forever on your phone, laptop or addicted to PS3 and it annoys us, we have already told you so why you upset?!

Also I would like to add that the majority of the time its not about you!

Therefore please stop thinking that everything we write other people will know it's about you, because as mentioned above its not likely about you! :-) (that is a genuine smile right there)

Whilst saying all that I do realise that everyone takes what you say differently and what you meant to say can be lost in translation because obviously different people interpret things differently, thats what makes for fun and interesting conversations in the comment section...

So anyways BDSS'ers can you relate to what I'm saying, have you ever got in hot water with your other half over something you have said in a blog or maybe via FB or twitter and my fellow bloggers have you found blogging hazadous for your relationships? How have you handled it?

Leggo!

Osama Bin Ladens Death

So you've probably heard the news by now, that Osama Bin Laden has been found and is dead.

I wasn't sure whether to blog about this or not, but as the day has gone on I've been paying attention to the reactions of people around me since the news was reported this morning. I've got a young sister who messaged me to ask if I'd heard the news. So I thought if someone so young is getting swept up in the discussion, then lets talk about it.

After the many tragedies and atrocities attributed to him, namely September 11th in the US and July 7th in the UK it is not surprising that my facebook today has been full of status updates celebrating his demise.

what I'm unsure of though is what real impact this will have on the US and UK fight against terrorism or whether the news will make anyone anywhere safer. He may have been the figurehead of Al-Qaeda but he is merely a link in a chain of a much larger organisation. Surely the main aims and objectives of Al-Qaeda still exist!

David Cameron in a statement has said "the news that Osama Bin Laden is dead will bring great relief to people across the world"

What are your thoughts BDSS'ers? Are you relieved?

There are also a lot of people questioning whether the news is actually true (with the body being buried at sea so quickly, which is said to be in accordance with Islamic practices.

What are your immediate reactions or thoughts?
